Three-Dimensional Scanning and Rapid Prototyping Method for Mah Meri Mask
There have been a series of scanning and archiving Mah Meri masks for prototyping and preservation by Dr Chee Weng Khong for his two on-going research projects on ‘Applying Direct Three-dimensional Scanned Data in the Reconstruction of Mah Meri Mask’ and ‘Developing a Three-dimensional Documentation and Prototyping Framework of the Mah Meri Cultural Heritage’.
Mah Meri is an indigenous tribe mainly located at Carey Island. It is the only one of two indigenous tribes that produce physical artefacts such as masks and wooded sculpture. For more information, you can contact Dr Khong CW at firstname.lastname@example.org.
World Innovation Forum Kuala Lumpur (WIFKL 2013)
(12 November 2013) Dr. Chee Weng KHONG, was invited to speak at the World Innovation Forum (WIFKL2013) at KLCC in Kuala Lumpur. He delivered his keynote entitled ”Nurturing Innovation in Youths for the 21st Century” at the World Assembly of Youth (WAY) satellite event held in conjunction with WIFKL 2o13.
Dr. Khong mentioned the importance of discovering creative ways to reach out to youths in this modern day to ensure the perpetuation of innovation in our society. However, he mentioned that the topic of innovation and creativity always tend to point towards the education sector. Dr. Khong highlighted the Interface Design programme at the Faculty of Creative Multimedia, MMU, as an example where lecturing staff deploy creative ways to nurture innovation in tertiary education.
World Innovation Forum-Kuala Lumpur 2013 (WIF-KL 2013) aspires to create a new culture of innovation, and is to be held at the epicentre of economic growth, emerging technologies and innovation in Asia. WIF-KL 2013 is jointly organised by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and the Malaysian Innovation Foundation/Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia (YIM). WIF-KL 2013 is a convergence of innovative events including one on one sessions, Plenary sessions, iLab sessions, Satellite Events and Exhibitions that bring together innovation leaders from Governments, Industries, Institutions and NGOs from around the world.
The World Assembly of Youth (WAY) is partnering with the organizing committee of WIF-KL to offer young people an opportunity to share and gain knowledge and expertise through an innovative satellite event titled WAY Youth Satellite Event. The selected theme for this event is “Youth Innovation: Ideas of Today, Realities of Tomorrow”. Through this satellite event, WAY aims to highlight the importance of experts and young innovators coming together to share experiences, discuss and deliberate topics and strategies on innovation for sustainable development. Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) Talk
(1 November 2013) Centre for Visual Computing (CVC) and Universal Usability & Interaction Design (UUID) SIG organised a talk on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). The speakers of the HCI talk were Prof. Dr. Norshuhada Bt Shiratuddin, Dean of School of Multimedia Technology and Communication, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM); and Prof. Dr. Shahizan Hassan, Director of PhD Program, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).
Followed by the HCI talk, both Prof Dr Norshuhada and Prof Shahizan having a postgraduate session with UUID SIG members.

Wen (Wenche) Nag is a senior researcher at Telenor Research & Future Studies. She is also a self-taught photographer and an emerging photo artist.The first public display of her artwork happened in Kuala Lumpur in 2006 at Hotel Impiana. Wen was at that time part of Telenor’s research team operating from Cyberjaya. Wen Nag is a former newspaper journalist and graduated in Media & Communication Studies from the University of Bergen in 1996. Telenor is an international mobile operator, and Wen is located at the headquarters in Oslo, Norway. In this lecture, Wen will talk about how she integrates photography in fieldwork as well as in presentations of research.
The talk is open for all.
